Ahh the Holidaze

So sorry, its been a while. Ahh the holidaze. Being married means never having to mean I’m sorry, but sometimes having to say it. It means sometimes you have to cook dinner even when you don’t feel like it. It also means visiting the in-laws for the holidays.

In our case, my parents are 10 minutes away. His are 8 hours away. So of course I let him get first dibs on holidays. But deep inside I secretly wish we could stay in NY for all holidays. I mean I am a holidaynista! I love the holidays. My tree is already up and decorated. I’m almost done with my holiday shopping. This is just my thing!!

My Christmases have always been cinnamon scented and lightly dusted with Nat King Cole’s holiday songs in the background. It means the windows at Lord and Taylor and Hot Cocoa with mini marshmallows and Royal Dansk Danish butter cookies in the blue tin.

Our Thanksgiving is always dad carving the turkey, mom cooking for days, and everyone crying when we go around the table any saying what we are thankful for. To me, that is the only way to really do the holidays. Even Fourth of July, we ALWAYS barbecue. I’m thinking of giving up all 4th of Julys, and maybe 2 Mother’s Days in exchange for every Christmas in NY, in perpetuity.

I mean come on! Christmas in NY, vs Christmas in Baltimore. This really isn’t a fair fight. It’s New York after all. There is no place like it.
